Vinkeveen and its church are a characteristic sight as you drive through the lakes. This beautiful village on the water has much to offer and discover. Here is a small selection of our favourite excursions that you can take in the vicinity of the BUITENleven campsite:
Our neighbour – The old Veenmolen
Close to home, diagonally opposite the campsite, stands an old Veenmolen dating from 1823. It is a recognisable feature in the polder landscape. Every Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, the mill runs when there is enough wind, and miller Adri will be happy to give you a tour of this old mill. You can buy various baked goods in the small miller’s shop.
Tip: Bake delicious pancakes at the campsite with fresh flour from the mill😊.
De Haar Castle
If you are looking for a place of interest with allure, De Haar Castle is the place to be. After a beautiful bike ride, you will reach the picturesque and centuries-old village of Haarzuilens with its red and white painted shutters. Just outside the village lies the largest and most luxurious castle in the Netherlands. Marvel at the towers, moats and drawbridges and take a stroll through the beautiful castle gardens. For children, Haarzuilens Castle is a fairy tale. For a moment, they feel like knights and princesses. During the school holidays, special children’s activities and guided tours are organised in the castle.
Tip: treat yourself to a delicious cup of coffee or lunch at ‘t Wapen van Haarzuylen. A characteristic restaurant with red and white shutters on the charming little square in Haarzuilen.
Children’s farms in the area
Want to take the children to a children’s farm? Kinderboerderij Oortjespad in Kamerik is within cycling distance. Or combine your visit to picturesque Haarzuilens with the animals at Boerderij Geertje’s Hoeve. At goat farm Ridammerhoeve, in the middle of the Amsterdamse Bos, you can cuddle goats to your heart’s content.
Pitch and Put
The Kameryck country estate is located 8 km away. It is a place where various enjoyable activities are organised, such as Pitch & Put, Footgolf, and a GPS challenge. www.kameryck.nl
Amsterdam, Utrecht and Woerden are 20 km away
Want to swap the peace and quiet of the countryside for a day in the city? Cities such as cheese town Woerden, Utrecht and Amsterdam are 20 km away from the BUITENleven campsite. They are definitely worth a visit and are easily accessible by car and public transport.
Tip: Take your bicycle and combine a beautiful cycle ride with a visit to a lovely city.
P.S. You can easily park your bicycle in one of the many secure bicycle parking facilities in the city.
