Walking & cycling

Through Vinkeveen and surroundings

Put on your walking shoes or hop on your bike. Narrow paths, meadow bird areas, swaying reed beds, winding rivers, peat bogs, windmills, water and farmland are all things you may encounter during a walk or bike ride through the beautiful surroundings of our campsite. We are happy to provide you with information about the many cycling and walking opportunities in the area. Here is a small selection of our favourite walking/cycling destinations:

bijleveld-wandelen

Walk from our “back garden” along the Bijleveld route

This 11 km walking route starts at our campsite and runs along the Bijleveld, one of the most important rivers from the Middle Ages. You will walk through a typical Dutch peat meadow landscape, with ditches, unusual meadow birds and cows grazing in the fields. You will cross the water on a tow bridge to continue your journey through the meadows.

Tip: You will pass the Grote Sniep. A nice place to stop and rest for a while and treat yourself to something tasty. And if you still have some energy left, climb the 9-metre-high tower for a beautiful view of Holland.

Tip: the walk takes you through unspoilt nature, with sometimes tall nettles. Make sure you wear long trousers and good shoes.

Bellopad: Walking along the railway tracks

Take a walk along the Bello pad, a former railway embankment. You can do this on your own or with a guide. He or she will take you through this nature reserve and tell you all about the flora, fauna and history. Along the way, you will visit a monumental railway house and enjoy a light lunch in the orchard of a cheese farm. For more information, visit: www.hetspoorhuis.nl/evenementen.

hoge-sniep

Climb the tower of De Grote Sniep

Walk or cycle to De Grote Sniep for a delicious cup of coffee or a healthy organic lunch. The 9-metre-high tower attached to the restaurant is well worth climbing. From here, you have a panoramic view of the polder landscape and, with a bit of luck, you can spot various meadow birds and hares.

Tip: try the freshly baked apple pie, our best apple pie experience ever😊.

Nature at its purest in Botshol

Botshol is a nature reserve where you can enjoy the silence. Motorised boats are not allowed here. During a walk through this beautiful nature reserve, you will encounter swaying reed beds, vast lakes and meadow bird areas. Did you know that Botshol is home to a spoonbill colony and that in summer you can go boating with the forest ranger?

Tip: hire a rowing boat or canoe from Verweij boat hire, www.botenverhuurverweij.nl, and sail yourself or join an IVN nature guide who will show you the most beautiful spots in Botshol. www.ivn.nl

Cycling along the Vecht

Did you know that Loenen a/d Vecht and Nieuwersluis have been named two of the most beautiful villages in Utrecht? That’s reason enough to explore these picturesque villages by bike. Follow the winding Vecht river and enjoy the beautiful country houses you encounter along the way.

Tip: take your bicycle on the bicycle boat and sail along the Vecht. For more information, visit: www.defietsboot.nl
